Swollen
tonsils
Tonsils are
known to be a part of our body’s immune system because they filter out the
germs sneaking through our buccal cavities. Have you ever wondered that if
our protective tissues get affected, how will our body stand against the
bacteria and viruses? It is when we suffer from tonsillitis that our
tonsils get swelled up. Tonsils are small glandular tissues which are
present near the opening of the esophagus and trachea. Even though
swollen tonsils are just one symptom of this infection, they are a
very important one. This disease can be originated by both: bacteria and
viruses. One precautionary measure would be to stay away from those
infected as it is very contagious.
Sometimes, it
is not just tonsillitis which results in swollen tonsils; there are
some natural causes for it. Although they are a big help while fighting
against the microorganisms, they need to be removed when naturally swollen
because they might hinder our food intake. The methods of removal used by
the doctors may be by surgeries, which can be bloody or the originators of
other infections or, it may be by laser treatment. Though laser treatment
is an effective method, it has a lot of side effects which may cause an
even severe disease.
It is an
infection whose causes include throat infection, sleep apnea, tonsillitis,
mononucleosis, influenza and flu. Many of us can only imagine the pain
which the infected suffer from. It even affects their talking ability as
swollen tonsils extend towards the place
where our voice box (larynx) is situated. Since it is a contagious
disease, it cannot be avoided for long as it spreads. Not only that, it
also gradually becomes dangerous for the body’s immune system. You must
contact a general physician or an ENT for treatment. Meanwhile, try out
some household remedies. Firstly, gargle using salt water and eat some
honey. Secondly, drink herbal, mint and green tea. Since these are
nature’s gifts, they will help you with your recovery.
In swollen
tonsils, one sign is that they would be thoroughly covered with white
spots. Another symptom may be halitosis or bad breath. In some cases, the
victim even suffers from high temperatures. Those infections which are
caused by the bacteria can be treated by antibiotics. Doctors throughout
the world have suggested that the affected ones should get prompt
treatment or it would become even more difficult to remove. It is quite
conspicuous and even disturbs our sleep. It causes breathing problems so
victims are advised to suck on ice chips or drink cold beverages.
Smoking also
contributes to this condition indirectly. It causes throat infections
which ultimately result in swelling. Swollen tonsils are one of the
major symptoms of mononucleosis; so immediate diagnosis is very crucial. I
think that nobody wants to get infected by a condition more severe just
because of carelessness and callousness. So be careful and don’t indulge
in any activities which involve large groups during this period as it
would increase the ratio of affected over unaffected.
Infamed tonsils
Tonsillitis
or inflamed tonsils
Inflamed
tonsils are the first and foremost symptom
of tonsillitis. It could be said that it is the other name of tonsillitis.
It is because the inflamed tonsils are very apparent and bring a
great deal of swelling along side. Reasons may be excessive use of spicy,
pungent or acrid eatables and junk food like toffees and chewing gums.
Sometimes, it is due to dry coughs or constant use of a high pitch while
talking. Nasal congestion and chronic blockages are some other causes of
this infection
Inflamed
tonsils are not the only symptom of
tonsillitis. There is earache and a nosebleed which affirms us that it is
inflamed tonsils infection (tonsillitis) that we are suffering
from. It is related to a great degree with streptococcal diseases mainly
because one is the symptom of the other. There are a lot of causes of this
infection. The most important ones include: influenza, rhinovirus,
adenovirus, cornonavirus and respiratory virus.. It is most commonly
spread by viruses, bacteria, acid reflux and allergies. Most of the
bacteria involved are aerobically; Fusobacterium, Porphyromanas,
Prevotella and Actinomyces. The viral agents include Cytomegalovirus and
HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus). It is a condition in which blood
vessels become very prominent on the tonsils and one experiences
difficulty while conversing.
Inflamed tonsils can
be a great pain if prompt treatment is not provided. The breathing and
swallowing problems act as a bonus package and make us vulnerable day by
day. This vulnerability is attributed to the fact that gradually; the
immune system falls apart due to the inactivity of this vital gland. The
necessary measures in such a condition would be to stay hydrated, have a
balanced and hygienic diet and take rest. Then there are the fenugreek
seeds and vegetable juices which are bound to help. Apart from these, try
out other home remedies like drink lemon juice treated with salt and
pepper. You should avoid acidic, spicy and soar eatables as they would
only make your condition worse. You should contact an ENT specialist if
the condition gets quite severe or unbearable. The former condition can be
controlled but in the latter one, it is vital to get tonsillectomy done.
Over the counter remedies or OTCs greatly relieve the patients in mild
scenarios.
If virus is
involved, then paracetamol is the key to its cure in the domain of
bringing temperatures down. Aspirin is also useful for those above the age
of sixteen. Bacterium’s involvement is treated by either penicillin or
erythromycin.
Usually, this
inflammation is not that severe and ends within a week; but complications
arise when a secondary infection occurs. The secondary infection may turn
out to be quite severe. Matters also get complicated when bacterium
streptococcus pyogene takes advantage of this weak immunity and enters the
body. It may cause scarlet fever and throat abscess resulting in red sores
throughout the body. Not only that, rheumatic fevers and kidney diseases
also occurred in very severe cases. And again, it is a very contagious so
one would do good staying away from the affected people.
