Throat problems

Pharynx is the medical term used for throat, a long tube which acts a mediator, transporting food and air to esophagus and trachea (windpipe) respectively. Our throat is something which we take for granted, that is why most of the infections we suffer are associated with our throats.  These throat problems can be very severe at times but otherwise, they don’t last very long. Our throat marks the beginning of the bolus journey in the gut or digestive track. So throat problems affect these activities as well. So the question arises: ‘Should I be worried about my sore throat?’ The answer to that depends on the circumstances. The symptoms associated with it play a very important role in answering that question for us. If you have red rashes etched over your whole body, then you might have streptococcus pyogene in your system. That earns you a trip to the doctor. Similarly, if you see white spots on your tonsils along with a bulging throat, you have to visit the doctor or in much severe cases;  get yourself treated by tonsillectomy.

I lost my voice! This is something many people wail about but not many know the background story. This happens when a virus intrusion leads to our mucous lining infection. If this comes in contact with our larynx (voice box), the vocal cords swell up inhibiting our speech. Sometimes, we might lose our voice due to polyps or some deep-seated psychological reasons. At times, there is an upward movement of gastric juices into the esophagus. This also causes throat problems. Dysphagia is another term used for difficulties while swallowing food.

Another global complaint is about bad breath. This is not always accounted to reasons such as untidiness. It also has its roots in the domain of infections. Halitosis is not always the infection responsible for this particular throat problem.  Inflamed adenoids, strep throat and severe tonsillitis attacks also share the blame. Should we be worried about lumps in our throat? The answer to that is affirmative whether; it is a physical or mental issue. If physical, it means that one might be suffering from throat cancer or swollen throat. And if it is mental, then it means that the person is suffering from stress. In this case, that person has to adopt some stress-relieving tactics.  Sometimes, due to nasal congestions, people start breathing from their mouth. This leads to dryness in your mouth and throat, and thus, results in soreness. Then we have draining sinus to worry about. In this disease, sinus drips down the area occupied by tonsils. This ultimately results in irritation and similar throat problems.

It might be hard to believe but sometimes, even medications trigger certain infections. These medications are mostly antibiotics used for treatment of other bacterial infections. So, it would be good for us to adopt preventive measures as sometimes, such things can inhibit our whole bodily functions. One should always remember that our throat houses the thyroid gland which controls our rate of development. Any damage there might even result in our death.
